Their work in sports, theater, gynecology and education is recognized
The Catalan football coach, Pere Gratacòs, the actress Marta Ribera, the Sabrià-Bach medical team and the MARE DE DÉU DEL CARME Special Education Center of the FUNDACIÓ ELS JONCS received the Gironins of the Year awards, for their brilliant work in their respective fields.
Pere Gratacòs. The awards jury recognized the Catalan national football coach because he symbolizes the race against those who deny us our rights as a country and place political limitations on sport. A team that cannot compete normally and whose players can only put on the shirt when Villar and the Spanish Football Federation give them permission. Thousands of Catalans, it was said, are Gratacòs every time the national team plays.
Sabrià – Bach medical team. Award to the team of professionals formed by a couple and their son (by gynecologists Josep Sabrià Rius and Concepció Bach, and by their son, also a gynecologist, Joan Sabrià Bach) who over the last ten years have developed a Down syndrome detection program with a reliability of 90% during the first trimester of pregnancy. The clearest proof that perseverance and teamwork ultimately pay off.
Marta Ribera. Award for a long professional career and that it should be much longer because this actress from Girona is still very young. Since the age of four, when she was already studying music and dance, she has practically not left the stages of theaters throughout the State, where she transmits energy and vitality with works such as the latest, Cabaret. She has also stood out as an actress on television sets.
Fundació Els Joncs. Recognition to the Mare de Déu del Carme special education center of the Els Joncs Foundation, for its thirty years and for the merit of fighting for a right such as that education should not exclude those with a physical or mental disability. A very important social function so that in its schools, curricular adaptations and learning workshops are normally discussed.
