In the summer of 2017, GIRONA FC will join the project of the Spanish Football Federation with the intention of playing La Liga Genuine, which brings together different teams from the first and second division of professional football formats entirely for players with intellectual disabilities.
In this way the GIRONA FC Genuine will be created, both new and new from the different entities that serve this collective lectiu to the Gironine regions.
The Els Joncs Foundation has a wide representation in this team, providing a technician and a total of five players divided between the Mare de Déu del Carme school (Àlex Benjumea and Andreu Borrell) and the Occupational Center (Ricard Nieto, Èrik Zaragoza and Enrique Gómez).
It will remain in the history of Girona FC that the first captain of that team has followed Alex Benjumea dels Joncs.
The competition consists of bringing together the 18 teams registered for four weeks each week in a game to play three games and establish a score similar to the league. The trips will be to Villarreal, Tarragona, Vigo and Palma de Mallorca.
The 8th final position will be very meritorious, but the most important of these trobades has been the coexistence and the values worked between the Girona FC players themselves and, above all, with the rest of the players from the different teams, who have shared a hotel, buses, restaurants…..
For the 2018-2019 season, it is anticipated that the teams will increase to 32 as a result of the success of the first edition, and the presence of GIRONA FC Genuine is now confirmed with the possible expansion of two players representing the Els Joncs Foundation.
