The ‘Mare de Déu del Carme’ Special Education Centre is a private school, associated with the Education Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and teaching is based on ideals inspired by Christian humanism. It was founded in Girona in 1977 by families and professionals working with children with intellectual disabilities, who were concerned that there was no place to give children an education tailored to their needs.
